On warm late September Saturday the Sun Warriors didn’t bat an eye and ran just as hot as the weather. Starting it off were the eight freshmen girls towing the line. Undaunted by a wrong marking on the course, the girls things started right. Immediately following the freshmen girls were the five freshmen boys who ran in their first race in the freshmen race. Like the girls, they went out and ran a great race. From there Solorio’s more experienced freshmen joined forces with the sophomore boys to capture third place, just missing second place St. Viator by three points. The same core scoring five from last week’s Argo Invite came to play again, all again scoring this week. Joining them in a standout performance this week was freshman Lorenzo Rivera who showed off his hard work over the summer paid off coming in as the sixth man.
The next race to go off was the varsity girls. Still not at full strength, the Lady Sun Warriors still ran very strong races led by junior Deisy Garcia (35th in 21:28). As the temperature continued to rise, Solorio’s remaining runners in both the boys varsity and open races pushed through without letting anything external impact their races with the varsity boys finishing 13th in the 25 team meet and senior Rebecca Rodriguez having a breakout race for the open girls. Great job to both the boys and the girls, and good luck this busy week at both the Whitney Young Quad on Tuesday and the Niles West Pat Savage Invite on Saturday.
