As September turns to October, the Sun Warriors did much more than just grind their way through the heart of the cross country season. On Saturday, September 23 both the boys and the girls competed at the Whitney Young Invite hosted at Washington Park, an especially important meet due to it being held on the City Championship course. After a great showing there, the Sun Warriors prepared for their only home meet of the year, the second annual Sun Warrior Invitational hosted at the Marquette Park Golf Course. The only high school meet held on a golf course in the Chicagoland area, Solorio not only put on a great meet but also came to play. With over twenty high school teams entered, the boys made an especially strong showing as they finished second at both the Fresh/Soph and Varsity levels. Not to be outdone, the girls came back the following week, and on Saturday, October 7 claimed their first ever Varsity trophy at Rich Central.
Congratulations to both teams as they have continued to make great strides this year to prepare themselves for the all-important racing season that starts this Saturday with the City Championships. After City, the team will enter the state series. Good luck!
