After a strong start last weekend at Plainfield, this weekend the Sun Warriors began the school year with a busy Saturday as well. For the first time ever, Solorio had a team run on the famed Detweiller Park course, home of the Illinois High School XC Championship in November. Some call it the mecca for running in the US with lots of former national and Olympic caliber athletes having run the course. On the boys end, junior David Hernandez (18:40) once again led the Varsity group with another PR. He was followed closely by fellow junior Robert Perez, running a season-debut time of 18:43. The lady Sun Warriors were led by yet another junior, Ruth Garcia, who placed 277th/746 runners. She was followed by freshman Kaylani Esteban (running a personal best) time, the sophomore trio of Giselle Tena (running a personal best), Ana Garcia, Teresa Dominguez, and senior Yaritza Saucedo.
Additionally, a lot of lot of good stuff took place as the split squad Sun Warriors also competed at the Reavis Invitational. The day was started at Reavis with sophomores Marley Vargas and Sophia Martinez each running personal bets and cracking into Solorio’s all-time top 10 list for Reavis times. This was followed by the boys F/S race and the debut races from freshman Adonaliz Hernandez (19:00) and sophomore Damian Arroyo (22:15). Also, special shout-outs to Eduardo Maya and Aaron Sanchez for 1 minute PRs, junior Fabian Arroyo for his almost 2 minute PR, and freshman Randy Laureano for over a 3 minute PR. Congratulations to all the runners and good luck next weekend as you head to Argo.
