Hard as it might be to believe, just like that, the indoor season is over. The boys wrapped things up at the University of Chicago on Friday night. Senior Terrence Bolden set an indoor school record running 58.33 in the 400 meter. Not to be outdone, freshman Xavier Morales broke the fresh/soph two mile record, crushing the record previously held by his older brother by 15 seconds. Most impressive of all was the performance turned in by sophomore Russel Cano in the 1600, PR by a whopping minute and 26 seconds, for a time of 5:18.
The girls were also at the University of Chicago and had an equally impressive showing. Leading the way was the 400 meter trio of Marylin Garcia, Karla Lopez, and Maria Herrera who all had standout performances and personal best times. Also with standout performances was Marley Vargas in the mile, along with Sophia Martinez and Mariah Torres, achieving personal best marks. After a long weekend, the girls were back at it again Tuesday night with another meet at Evanston. On the sprints end, the girls showed off their depth by fielding an almost completely different team than the one that competed on Friday night and still having all five girls who ran the 160 meter PR by at least a second. The distance girls also showed their depth, but in a slightly different way. With almost every girl having already raced on Friday night, all of the girls were put in the 800 meter where ten girls all ran sub 3:00. Congrats to both the boys and girls on an awesome indoor season and keep the momentum going in outdoors!
