After arguably the best City meet in school history, the Sun Warriors left little doubt on Saturday that this was the best Regional meet in school history. Starting with the girls race, freshman Kaylani Esteban set a new school record for the Regional course, finishing in fourth and recording the highest ever finish for a Sun Warrior at the Regional Championships. Not far behind was the ever reliable veteran trio of Mariah Torres (10th), Deisy Garcia (11th), and Ruth Garcia (12th). Closing the back door was sophomore Giselle Tena, followed by fellow sophomores Teresa Dominguez and Ivette Camacho. Showing the strides the program has made as a whole this season, all seven girls now own a time in the top 10 all-time fastest Solorio times ever ran at Regionals.
After seeing the girls grab second place as a team, the boys stepped up and followed suit. The freshmen duo of Adonaliz Hernandez (6th) and Xavier Morales (9th) led the way, recording the two fastest Solorio boys times ever ran at Regionals. They were followed by fellow team scorers junior David Hernandez (career PR), sophomore Brandon Galicia (season PR), and senior Alex Nino (career PR), keeping the 1-5 split at 61 seconds. Not to be forgotten, were the strong performances by all those Sun Warriors who weren’t entered into the Regional race, but ran great efforts. Before any other team showed up, and without any fanfare, these Solorians were racing only the clock and their teammates. The team time trial not only showed the commitment and depth of Solorio’s teams, but also showcased strong performances that reiterated to the Varsity runners that they were ready to go out and have a great day. Special shout out to freshman Jesus Chavez for recording a 25 second PR and sophomore Julio Vaca for running a 41 second PR. Congrats to all and good luck at Sectionals!
