In addition to a number of personal records and school records being set during the City meet series (a series consisting of a grueling five meets in ten days), the Sun Warriors set a new program record with the number of overall All-City performances it achieved. Have a total of five All-City performances in the last five years combined, this year’s team really flexed its muscle coming home with seven All-City performances and a couple of near misses.
Like last year, Solorio showed it’s distance depth having an All-City F/S girls 4×800 (Delila Lopez, Sophia Martinez, Adamari Reyes, Marley Vargas), All-City F/S boys 4×800 (Russel Cano, Daniel Melero, Lorenzo Rivera, Julio Vaca), and All-City Varsity girls 4×800 (Teresa Dominguez, Ruth Garcia, Giselle Tena, Mariah Torres). In addition, on the distance end freshman Aryam Jaimes was All-City in the 800 with a time of 2:43 and sophomore Ivette Camacho was All-City in the 1600 with a time of 6:26. Joining her F/S girls teammates in receiving All-City recognition was sophomore Elizabeth Torres in the 100 meter hurdles placing 6th in a time of 20.56. Last, but certainly not least was junior Mike Collins who placed 7th in the Varsity shot put with a throw of 42-02.50.
Congratulations to all those who competed at City and good luck to those finishing up their seasons at Sarah Goode on Tuesday, May 9 as well as those continuing on to Sectionals hosted at Concordia University.
