Saturday, October 1 was not only the first day of October, it was also the first time in Solorio school history that the cross country team hosted a home meet. Although conditions were dreary for some, the sun was definitely shining on the Sun Warriors. Sisters Ruth and Marylin Garcia both showed their mental resilience by running season best times and not letting the weather get to their head. Not to be outdone, five girls came through with personal bests even on a wet and slow course. All of these strong performances culminated with the girls finishing in third place, congrats!
The boys had some fresh faces step up in big ways with the likes of Randy Laureano, Alex Nino, and Alexis Tello all running inspiring races. Laureano continued his to immense improvements, running 5:30 faster than his first race of the season, including a 1:50 career PR this past weekend (23:02). Nino ran his season best by 39 sec and a career best by 17 seconds (17:51) which also made him the Sun Warriors 4th overall scorer. Finally, Tello ran a gutsy performance, landing him a 1:24 career PR (21:06). All and all, a concerted effort earned the boys a second place trophy.
It looks like things are starting to click for both the girls and boys as they head into their final race of the season this weekend at Rich Central before the racing season begins. A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all of the alumni, parents, and Solorio staff who came out to the Marquette Park Golf Course to watch or work the event, we never could have done it without you!
