First Third of Cross Country Season in the Books

Anyone associated with the sport of cross country knows that a successful season is made in September. After a strong summer of 6:30 morning runs, the Solorio came into this season ready to roll. The results have spoken for themselves. The Sun Warriors kicked off the season on September 2 at the Plainfield Central Invite, before take split squads to Reavis and Peoria on September 9, and most recently competing at Argo on September 16. For the girls, the junior tandem of Teresa Dominguez and Ana Garcia have continued to show that hard work over time yields substantial results. Both girls put in fabulous summers and have thus found themselves as the four and five girls closing the back door.

The boys have their own junior tandem who have taken the lead of a young team and shown this talented group the right way to go about things. Martin Barrientos led the way performance wise for the varsity boys at both Plainfield and Peoria, while teammate Brandon Galicia was the top finisher for the Sun Warriors at Argo. With such strong upperclassmen varsity leadership it should come as no surprise that even after the open races were cancelled at Argo this past Saturday, both the boys and girls open runners ran intersquad mile time trials. Congratulations to all of those who have competed the past few weeks and good luck as you move on to the second third of the season!
