At long last the Sun Warriors can take a breath. It was a season for the ages, undeniably the best in school history with a record number of All-City, All-Sectional, and state qualifying athletes, all due to the overall depth and commitment of the entire team. These success were celebrated on Friday night at the 4th Annual Solorio Athletics banquet. Congratulations to all those who were recognized, especially the following individual track & field award winners:
F/S Track Coach’s Award: Lorenzo Rivera and Lizbeth Lopez
F/S JV Track MVPs: Messiah Travis and Giselle Tena
Varsity Track Coach’s Award: Jesus Rivera and Marylin Garcia
Varsity Track MVPs: Mike Collins and Yaritza Saucedo
Following the banquet, everyone got up early Saturday morning to come out to the 4th Annual Sun Warrior 5k with class of 2016 alumni Edgar Flores taking the win. Outside of Flores and a few others, the pace was rather pedestrian compared to the race between class of 2015 alumni Ivan Diaz (Saint Xavier) and Emmanuel Chavez (North Central College) a month earlier. Regardless, it was great to see so many alumni, friends, and family out enjoying a beautiful morning! Following the 5k was the much anticipated D’Agostino Dual where a male Solorio staff member takes on a F/S girl in a race. This year, staff member Rigo Padilla squeaked out a win for the staff, evening the series at 2-2. The grand finale was the moment everyone had been waiting for: the barbeque.
Thanks to all of those who came out to one or both of these season ending events, your presence means more than you know!
