Although it was the last regular season meet of the season, the Sun Warriors focused on the task at hand at Rich Central, setting themselves up well as they head into the racing season this weekend. For the boys, freshman Lorenzo Rivera is living proof that battling with the bigger dogs in practice pays off on race day. Running a huge course PR and a near career PR of 19:04 on a very muddy battlefield at Rich Central was beyond impressive. Similarly, junior Aaron Sanchez continues to improve week by week and his career PR of 21:15 was equally impressive given the conditions. Rivera helped lead the frosh/squad as their streak of 2nd place team finishes continued. Special congratulations also go out to freshman Erick Gomez for running his first race and fellow freshmen Jesus Chavez along with Jesus Garcia for their big PRs!
Similarly, the girls also pushed through the mud at Rich Central to set themselves up for City. Leading the way for the girls in the frosh/soph race was Ivette Camacho, followed by Aryam Jaimes, both of whom received medals. In the girls varsity race, Kaylani Esteban led way while earning a medal in the process. She was followed respectively by Mariah Torres, Ana Garcia, Giselle Tena, and Teresa Dominguez. In the girls open race, Yaritza Saucedo led the way while earning a ribbon in the process. She was followed respectively by Monse Zepeda with a personal best time, Aranelly Avalos with a personal best time, Zaily Rengel with a personal best time, and Steffany Fierro with a personal best time. Great to all the ladies and gentlemen who ran and best of luck at this weekend’s City Championships!
