On Saturday the Sun Warriors reunited as one collective team as they competed in the Dave Brady Invitational hosted by Argo. Starting the action off in an exciting way was freshman Aryam Jaimes who led the F/S girls in her first race. In the girls varsity race, fellow freshman Kaylani Esteban led the way placing 20th with a two and a half minute personal best time. She was followed respectively by Ruth Garcia, Ivette Camacho with a personal best time, Teresa Dominguez with a personal best time, Ana Garcia with a personal best time, Giselle Tena with a personal best time, and Yaritza Saucedo. Finally, keeping with the theme of the day, it was freshman Lizeth Valle who led the way with close to a two minute personal best time in the girls open race. She was followed by Rosa Franco, freshman Arranelly Avalos achieving a personal best time, and Marylin Garcia.
For the boys, it was also a freshman who stole the show. Adonaliz Hernandez again showed his toughness and patience by working hard throughout the race and grinding out to the end. His impressive time of 18:05 was a fifty five sec PR which gave him an 8th place finish. This helped lead the F/S to a second place trophy. For the varsity boys, junior Robert Perez had a great start that put him in a great position to do well. The look on his face showed that he wasn’t going down easily. He gutted out a 59 second PR running a time of 17:44. Not to be outdone, in the open race the freshman tandem of Jesus Chavez and Jesus Garcia both ran their first ever high school race, both illustrating that the future is bright. Good luck to all the girls and boys as they head to the Zi Invitational at Washington Park next week!
